DesktopTitle collects nothing on its own. There is no account, no analytics, no tracking, no advertising and no third-party SDK of any kind. The only information that can ever reach us is a problem report you write and send yourself.

What the app stores, and where

The names you give your desktops, along with your settings, are stored locally in the app's own sandbox container on your Mac. They are never transmitted to us or to anyone else — unless you include the diagnostics log in a problem report you explicitly send (see below). Deleting the app deletes them.

Network use

It depends on where you got the app. The direct download (DMG) makes no network connections on its own - it does not even include Apple's purchase framework. The Mac App Store version makes outgoing connections for exactly one purpose: Apple's In-App Purchase and Restore Purchases. That transaction is handled entirely by Apple. We never see your name, your email, your payment details or your Apple Account.

There is one exception, and it only happens when you ask for it: the optional "Report a Problem" window (in the app's menu, since version 1.0.3) sends a report to us when - and only when - you press Send. The dialog shows exactly what it includes: your description, the app and macOS versions, and, if you leave the checkbox on, the app's diagnostics log. That log contains the app's activity and the desktop names you typed. Nothing is ever sent automatically, and the log stays on your Mac unless you send it.

Optional permissions

The optional "Guess desktop name" feature, which is off unless you turn it on, suggests a name for the current desktop from the app you are using. Its basic level uses only the frontmost application's name and needs no permission at all. Its highest level asks macOS for the Screen Recording permission, which lets it read the frontmost window's title. Either way the information is used on your Mac to suggest a name and nothing else: it is not stored beyond the label you keep, and it is never transmitted on its own. If you enable the diagnostics log, window titles the feature read may appear in it — and therefore in a problem report, but only if you choose to include the log and press Send. Declining the permission leaves the rest of the app fully functional.

Children

The app is not directed at children and collects no data automatically from anyone.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new date.
